the sickness unto desiderata
lest
in argent
of heavenly bodies
all blazon points
with the tincture
of infection
your temple hot
and dry eyes by night should rise
ask this
what is so new
as that which is not understood
how it should pass for simple white
we feel behind the silver of dusk is
a thing that we had almost touched.

the occasion of the supermoon
by window the moon framed
pulled back or rising
upon this beach of wall
by orbit hours,
pocked orb be-seamed
how serene she shines
upon serene line of quilted sleeping
you, like desert dune traced
in cool of night,
and in circling by night and day
we each an intertidal zone are
a strip of life we own
mine widened by pull
of your nearness grown.

The house on Pleasant Avenue (for Aunt Linda)
you lived on pleasant avenue
and you had a toy robot
and the pictures on your walls
all had stories in them
and you
could tell them to us
you were like a new element
to me
Lindenium
made of movement
and laughter and energy
you had a chromatic harmonica
maracas and a wood block
a tambourine and it didn't seem
to matter how one shook it
it would be music
at Linda's
you would walk out to our car
when we had to leave
and say goodbye
the elms would sway above your eyes
looking through the open car window
riding away I would turn around
and look back
until I couldn't see you
waving from pleasant avenue.
