Pearls before breakfast

Link

This is an interesting, if a bit overdone, article from the Washington Post mentioned on the Weekend Stubble blog. Concerns a famous violinist playing in a metro station.

Like men of the West

how you rose up from the ground
immobile
how you made your pounding useful
how you split the earth until it held you tight

like a holding of meaning
a holding of potential, a diversion
a stringing in of marked animals
an emmision of barbed strings like the signs which draw directions across the dirt of Wyoming
because it has already been there when we arrive.

Like men of the west
like true men I was
driving a long way down an empty road
breathing through our heels
our gullets free to cry "ki-yipee"
through trailing clouds of dust
across the dirt of Wyoming
